Another fantastic week in Louisiana 🙂 I’m staying in Bossier with Sister Banidawanew dress and I’m looking forward to another exciting 6 weeks here!
Monday was our service day because we have transfers this week. I cornrowed (59 tiny braids!) Sister Bonnie’s hair corn rowcornrow2and then we headed over to an investigators house to do some yard work. After that we got to have a game night with a family in our ward and some of the other missionaries were able to join us as well. One of the sisters was leaving to go home from her mission the next day so she shared her testimony at the end. It was so wonderful to listen to her talk about how much her mission has blessed her life 🙂 Missions truly are the best!!!
Wednesday we got to go teach a woman that has Native American heritage 🙂 She is so excited about the Book of Mormon because many of the things in there match up with old Folk lore from her ancestors. It was so cool to get to hear her stories and then see how perfectly they correlate with that incredible book! Truly it is a book from God. Anyone that has sense enough to read it and pray to their maker will see and feel its divinity! Just read the book and pray! It’d so simple but yet those simple acts will change your life for the better 🙂 It’s absolutely incredible!!!
Thursday we headed out to knock doors and got an unexpected call to head over to the hospital for one of our investigators. No worries they are fine 🙂 Because our door knocking time was cut short we were only able to knock on two doors. The Lord is so aware of what is going to happen. The second door we knocked was one that I was about to walk right past, but Sister Bonnie felt like we should go knock on it. Turns out it was a member of our church that had moved in a little while ago but hadn’t known where the church was so she hadn’t come to church yet and her records hadn’t been moved there yet! Wow the second door and we hit exactly the person we were supposed to see on that street that day! Miracles people, they’re fantastic 🙂 I have no doubt I am doing the work of the Lord for His church here on the earth today, no doubt in my mind!pup
Friday morning while Sister Bonnie and I were planning for the day we discussed who in the ward would make a fabulous friend for one of our investigators. We thought and prayed and one name just kept coming up. That night our church had a BBQ and our investigator was able to make it which was fabulous! I was sitting with the investigator and my companion was off talking with people from the ward. The couple we had talked about that morning “randomly” came and sat at our table and totally got into a great conversation with our investigator no prompting from me at all! On the drive home I asked Sister Bonnie if she told them to come over and sit at our table. She didn’t! Wow what a testimony to me that the Lord knows who people need in their lives. He told us who it was going to be, but then He directed them! It was the coolest thing!!! As they talked with our investigator it was so clear that they were exactly who they needed to help them 🙂
Saturday we went out and knocked doors for 5 hours! Lots of adventures of course 😉 One door we knocked a man came to the door claiming to be a prophet. Prophet Washington is his name. He was an older black man with no shirt on and a 5 inch knife in his hand. surprise We were in a sketchier part of town so I was pretty much terrified. When we asked him to tell us about him being a prophet he said that he was just going to let us leave before we started shouting because the last few missionaries that came to his door left yelling. My thoughts were, “Umm sir I’ve talked to far too many people today to start yelling at you.” But instead we said, “Alrighty sir, you have a blessed day!” On a more spiritual note, we went and taught one of our investigators that has been avidly reading the Book of Mormon. She had owned the book for at least 15 years before we came and knocked on her door and she had never opened it up. With our first visit she went and found the book. Now she has read quite a bit of it. Not only is she reading through, but she is also cross referencing everything with the bible! It’s fantastic 🙂 She told us that so much of what she is reading matches with beliefs she has that she could never connect with another faith before. She believes things and knows them to be true and the Book of Mormon is clarifying those truths to her! The Holy Ghost is manifesting the truth, and it is so wonderful to get to be able to witness that!
Sunday I was able to sing in church again 🙂 I feel so very grateful that the Lord keeps blessing me with these opportunities 🙂 We went out door knocking again after church and we had another super cool experience. We met a man who has totally been searching for truth. We were able to give him a Book of Mormon and promised him that if he would sincerely pray, then the Lord would give him that faith that he truly desires 🙂 It was super awesome and the spirit was totally there! Missionary work rocks!!!
I’m so grateful to be a missionary at this time! The Lord is preparing the hearts of his children to hear this incredible message! Jesus Christ’s church is on the earth again today! There is a living prophet that direct God’s children just as there has been in the past. How do we know these things are true? We read the Book of Mormon. It truly is where we need to start. It promises in the introduction that if we read the book and pray to know that it is true then we will know for ourselves that it is the word of God, that Jesus is the Christ and Savior of the world, and that there is a living prophet on the earth today. This is something that I have pondered about and learned for myself and I know it to be true, but I won’t ask anyone to go off from my word. Instead I encourage you to learn for yourself. Give it a try 🙂 One of two things could possibly happen- First- nothing happens and you lose nothing. Second- you gain a closer relationship with your Father in Heaven, you feel Him answer your prayer, you know the truth with unshaken faith because you received the answer for yourself, and you have a calm reassurance with an understanding of the Lord’s plan for you 🙂 It is well worth the try if you ask me 🙂 I’m not some crazy missionary; I’m a daughter, a sister and a friend 🙂 Most importantly I know that I am a daughter of God and I want everyone I know to understand this incredible message. If we truly understand the doctrine of the church then we will have the desire to help others to feel the joy that we are able to experience through this knowledge 🙂
I love you and the gospel is true!!!

April 22, 2014

So this past week I was pretty sick but no worries, I still had plenty of adventures!
The summer is starting to come and good old Mr. Sunshine is coming out bright as ever. My pasty skin was not ready for that, but I have been promised by a servant of the Lord (my sweet companion Sister Bonnie) that my afflictions shall be for my good aka I will have a smoking hot husband lolburned
The one day I was sick as a dog I looked out the window and I saw the Easter Bunny! I knew no one would believe me because I was taking so much medicine so I took a picture to prove it!easter bunny
While we were out tracting this week this super creepy guy came up and really wanted Sister Bonnie’s phone number. It was super awkward. He kept just staring at her and saying that he needed to be able to get in contact with her. He said, “Your eyes. You make me wanna melt.” Gross creepy man. The joys of having a gorgeous Figian companion. Sometimes I think people listen to us just because they love listening to her accent lol
Easter gave us a wonderful opportunity to have people be more open to our message. We were able to get into quite a few doors this week! One woman had just had her new baby girl 5 days ago and said that we were an answer to her prayer. She had been stressing out so much about her little girl and we had provided her with a few moment of peace which was what she had asked the Lord to help her find 🙂trampoline
Silly random story, we almost got shot by a Beebe gun. This little boy was out in his front yard (he was probably about 3 or 4) and he was shooting at us! Lucky for my comp and I, he didn’t have all that great of marksmanship.
One day when we were out tracting I said a silent prayer to Heavenly Father to help me know how to teach to the persons needs that was ready to hear our message that day. Immediately the scripture Alma 7:11-13 came into my mind which was a perfect Easter scripture. As I thought about it the scenario played through my mind of us offering to share an Easter message from the scriptures and then sharing that thought before explaining about the Book of Mormon. The next door we knocked I followed that prompting exactly and it was incredible! The spirit taught that woman and she was so grateful for the knowledge that we had brought to her! The Lord is truly leading guiding and teaching his missionaries exactly what it is he wants us to do for those who are ready to receive the message!
Sorry I don’t have that much more from this past week. Like I said before, I was sick so that made it a little hard 😛
I love you and the church is true!

Well hello everyone 🙂lunch
Monday was super fun! We had zone P-Day at the park and played some ultimate Frisbee with a football. Might I say that I am not all that great at throwing a football, but to give myself some credit, I am improving! We then had dinner with a wonderful family that we are teaching and did a little family home evening with them 🙂 Charades is a ton of fun when some people in the group are Spanish speakers and keep shouting out their responses in Spanish!
Tuesday morning we had splits with the relief society so I got to go out with Sister Sately. I’m still not super familiar with the area so luckily she had a list of people she wanted so see so we headed out. While we were searching for a particular sister’s address we got a little turned around. I was searching in the ward roster for the right address and Sister Sately was on the phone and pulled over so she could write down some directions that another sister in our ward was giving her on how to get to the house we were looking for. I looked up from the ward roster to find that Sister Sately had “randomly” parked in front of one of our investigators houses that I had yet to meet. We had been by the house multiple times, but the investigator was never at home. Sister Sately was still on the phone and started to pull away, but then I stopped her, explaining that I really felt like we should go knock on door. She quickly got off the phone and I explained the situation. We prayed and headed for the door. She was home! Not only was she home, but we were able to have a fabulous discussion with her 🙂 The investigator brought up a concern that she had heard that Mormon’s don’t think adoption is okay. How perfect that it was Sister Sately and I that were there visiting with the young woman. Obviously we all know my experience with adoption, and the sister that was with me has considered adopting herself. The Lord was very aware of who it was that girl needed to talk to and there was nothing random about us just so happening to park right in front of her house. Through whatever means the Lord needs to He will guide us to those who need what we have to offer 🙂 Sister Bonnie and I also had a great lesson with some less active members in our ward and we got to talk about the importance of the restoration of the church. Through the restoration we have the priesthood on the earth today, a prophet that leads and guides us and we are still able to receive God’s council to His children today. He hasn’t stopped speaking to us! What a blessing it is to know that we have modern revelation that helps us to know what direction we are to go in 🙂combing hair
Thursday we went out to tract. At first we went one way and had walked about a half mile down the road towards the neighborhood we were planning on tracting in when Sister Bonnie said, “I just thought of a little trailer park that I think we should tract in.” So around we turned and walked about a mile to this trailer park that was in the opposite direction. The Lord was definitely leading that change in direction because we found three people that actually wanted to talk with us! It was super fabulous! We also gave out 2 Book of Mormons, so the Lord was definitely leading us to those he had prepared 🙂 In the evening we got to go to a Relief Society Enrichment activity that we had been asked to participate in. We were focusing on women of the Old Testament. Sister Bonnie got to talk about Eve and I had Deborah. I knew nothing about her so it was an awesome opportunity to get to learn about that incredible lady. She was a prophetess and she led the people of Israel to victory in battle against the Canaanites. After the people won she and the captain of the army sing a song of praise to God! She was an incredible example and leader for her people and she worked hard to follow the direction of the Lord. After the victory the people of Israel were able to enjoy 40 years of peace. It was wonderful getting to tell the women about such an incredible person. To finish up my section of the program I sang my own song of praise, “How Great Thou Art” verses 1 and 3 🙂 I am so grateful I was given the opportunity to study about Deborah. She is a wonderful role model for all people, not just women 🙂
Saturday we had a fabulous lesson with some of the people we had tracted into on Thursday. The first part was a Q & A but then we were able to get into the lesson. This particular house hold has a man who is very southern Baptist, his daughter that is Baptist, but is open to learning, and his wife that is very open to learning and has started reading the Book of Mormon and is enjoying thus far 🙂 When we visited with them this last time we went over the Plan of Salvation. The wife liked the things we said and agreed with it. She wants to learn more. The super southern Baptist kept talking over us and saying the same thing over and over again, “It is only through the grace of Jesus Christ, it doesn’t matter what religion you are.” He wouldn’t answer any of our questions so usually we would just wait until he had stopped shouting about Jesus and then we would continue our lesson. Definitely an interesting visit. The wife for sure wants to keep learning and the husband is fine with us coming over, we just have to be ready for him to loudly testify of Jesus’ grace, which is totally great!
Sunday me and two other sister missionaries had the opportunity to talk in church. Our topic was obedience and we all took very different approaches to it which was super fabulous! The first sister talked about how when we are obedient then we are protected. I talked about examples from the scriptures where obedience brought incredible blessings and how we have been promised knowledge and light as we keep the commandments. The last Sister talked about how through obedience we are promised two kinds of blessings. The first are the immediate blessings. She explained that the immediate blessing we receive by following God’s commandments is a closer relationship with the Lord. We are able to come nearer to God as we obey him. Then after a trial of our faith he will bless us in other incredible ways 🙂 It was all around a great Sunday and I am so grateful I get to serve in a ward with so many incredible missionaries! They are all always teaching me 🙂
I love you and the gospel is true!

Oh my goodness wasn’t conference just the best?!!I know I will be reading and rereading all of those talks again! I can honestly say that conference was the high light of my week! I loved the analogy of learning to recognize our “spiritual bit”. The Lord has given us our agency but I fully believe that if we can truly try and align our will with the Father’s then we will know what path we need to take. We have to move for him to guide us and sometimes when we aren’t going anywhere He will give us a nudge of encouragement to help us on our way.spiritual bit“Lead me, Guide me” Now, for story purposes I will tell you about my adventures this week in Bossier-sister licorice mustache
Monday- My district went bowling which was a total party! I am happy to say that even though I started in very last place I was able to finish in first both games we played 🙂 Yay for district fun 🙂bowling districtwinner
Wednesday- While tracting we came upon a woman that seemed super friendly. She came to the door and said she’d love to hear our message but she had some food cooking on the stove. She said if we would wait for a minute she would take it off the stove and come back. We waited. Then we waited some more. During the time we waited I told Sister Bonnie a dramatic story from my life and as I was finishing it I looked down at my watch. It had already been 15 minutes! When I pointed this out to Bonnie she replied, “We are going to wait.” With that solemn resolve we waited outside this woman’s house for a good 20 minutes! We knocked, but of course she didn’t come back. No one can say that we weren’t diligent with our efforts.
The Lord was kind and sent my boyfriend riding by on his little bike just as we were leaving that home. I know that I must explain. He is a little boy:) When I first met him he told my companion that I was pretty. The next time I saw him he called me girlfriend, and so you have it. Whenever we are working the area where he lives he makes sure to come over and say, “Hi girlfriend!” He’s a good little buddy to have lol. boyfriend
Sister Banidawa’s birthday was this past Sunday and the celebrations began Wednesday night when one of our investigators threw her a little surprise party 🙂 It was fabulous! I love these peoples kids. They are just the cutest! Their little girl had me come outside and play soccer with her and then I got to play dinosaur games with the 2 year old boy. He loves dinosaurs! Sometimes he kind of reminds me of my brother Chauncey, because even at the young age of 2 he already can tell me all the names of the Dinosaurs lol.
Thursday- The south is a place of many churches, as I’m sure we’ve all heard the name, The Bible Belt. There is a church on every corner and often one between as well. There is one church here that has an incredible white cross set on a hill that reaches towards Heaven. It is very impressive and a great reminder of the gift that the Savior has given us. I couldn’t help myself and I had to get a few pictures with it so you all could appreciate the area I’ve been called to labor is 🙂crossbeautiful sisters
The Lord’s hand is in this work and I’ll give you a fabulous example- We were visiting with the wonderful elderly woman whose husband is not a member. We had brought over a video to watch with her but we couldn’t figure out how to get the TV to cooperate so we ended up having to go into the office where her husband was to watch the video. He hadn’t planned on watching the video, but because we had come to the office he ended up turning his chair around and joining us. The Lord knew he needed to watch that video and he also knew how to make it happen 🙂 That little experience might not sound like a big deal but I promise you it was! I’m so grateful for this incredible work!friends
Something that I have seen out here on my mission is how people will allow themselves to slowly forget the incredible experiences they have had and will slowly become lazy with how they practice their religion. It is a choice and it can be very destructive to your happiness. The gospel brings happiness and security, but if we don’t actively practice then we will fall short of our potential. We see this example given in the bible when Jesus Christ comes walking on the water to the disciples that are out on their boat. When Peter sees Christ he jumps over board and begins walking to the Master, progressing forward and doing something he would never be able to accomplish on his own. As soon as he allows himself to get discouraged, he loses sight of his Lord and he begins to sink. He just had this incredible experience of walking on water and then he begins to doubt. Don’t let yourself doubt the experiences you’ve had, the things you’ve felt. That will only cause you to sink. Keep your eyes focused on Christ and keep using the atonement and you cannot fail! This is a continuous process so never allow yourself to become lazy. With continued faith and remembrance of what you know to be true you can accomplish anything! What an amazing blessing that is 🙂
I love you and the church is true!
